Q:  What's the schedule?

A:  Students attend school 8:15 AM – 4:15 PM Monday through Thursday.  Friday is a teacher planning day.  We will follow the same calendar as any other 4 day a week school such as Independence Academy which is available on the district website.

Q:  Are there other local schools on the four day week?

A:  Yes.  New Emerson, Dual Immersion, Independence Academy, and Caprock Academy operate on similar schedules.

Q:  What can I do if I need care on Fridays?
A:  The Extended Hours Program has full-day Friday programs in the valley and can be reached at 241-3603.  Community members have also made arrangements to watch children of local families.  Check with staff for contact info of these community members.

Q:  Is there care for early drop offs or late pick ups before and after school?

A:  There is no formal extended care program provided by the school.  Community members have come together to provide before and after school care.

Q:  Is there bus service?
A:  Students who live in Glade Park are within the boundaries of the Glade Park School and receive bus service.  (This does not include Little Park Road.)  The district website has a tool to check bus eligibility:

Carpooling options may be available with other families commuting from Grand Junction.

Q:  Is there lunch service?
A:  No.  Students bring their own lunches and snacks.  A refrigerator and microwave are available for student use.  Families who qualify for free and reduced lunches should notify the school in order to be put in touch with a community assistance program.

Q:  What do your multi-age classrooms look like?

A:  The Glade Park Community School currently offers K -5th grade education in one classroom.  One Lead Teacher and a second full-time Teacher staff the school with the help of community and parent volunteers.  We also have our own part-time administrator.

Q:  How is the curriculum similar to and different from other schools?

A:  All district schools teach to the same standards and curriculum.  What varies is the way in which they go about teaching those subjects.  At the Glade Park Community School you will find a unique emphasis on place-based, hands-on learning, multi-age classrooms, and learning from/about community and the natural environment.  Be sure to explore the “Curriculum” section of this website for more information.

Q:  How is the community involved in this “community” school?

A:  The community is not just a part of this school, the community is making this school happen.  Neighbors are watching children before and after school, helping out in the classroom, contributing their musical talents to festivals and celebrations, teaching handwork, taking students on field trips....  This is what it's all about.  Other opportunities to be involved include helping with construction of our permanent facility, contributing financially, and working with the school's parent-teacher association.

Q:  Can I come visit the school to learn more?
A:  Absolutely!  Contact the school to arrange a time.
